- 모모타로 이미지의 국가주의적 변용 -
메이지 시대 천황중심의 근대국민국가로 일본 사회가 재편되면서 모모타로 이야기는 국가 주의 이데올로기와 결합하는 양상을 뚜렷하게 보여 준다. 모모타로 이미지는 전근대의 사무 라이의 형상으로부터 귀여운 소년의 모습으로 바뀌게 된다. 소년병으로서의 모모타로는 국체 론에 의해 더욱 강화된 천황중심주의 아래에서 ‘충’(忠)이라는 가치를 실천하는 이상적인 신 민의 역할을 수행했다. 또한 모모타로 이야기는 국체사상의 세례를 받은 국학 연구의 노력에 의해 신성성을 부여받기도 했다. 그러나 신화적 기억이 신성화한 것은 모모타로가 아닌 모모 타로의 충성심이며 오니가시마의 정벌이었다. 본고에서는 모모타로의 이미지가 변용되는 일 련의 과정을 국가주의 및 천황중심주의 이데올로기를 중심으로 고찰함으로써 이미지와 정치 의 관계에 관해 논의하였다.
The Nationalistic Transformation of the Image of Momotarō
The story of Momotarō clearly shows the colligation with nationalist ideology as Japanese society being reorganized into a modern nationstate focused on the Emperor or Tennō during Meiji period. The image of Momotarō metamorphosed from the form of a premodern samurai to the shape of a adorable child. As a child soldier, Momotarō plays the role of an ideal citizen to practice the value of loyalty(忠) under the emperorcentrism reinforced by nationalism. The story of Momotarō was also endowed with sacredness through the efforts of Kokugaku(国学) specialists that had been baptized by Kokutai(国体) theory. Nevertheless, the thing that the mythical memory sanctified was not Momotarō itself, but the fidelity of Momotarō and the conquest of Onigashima which was executed by the child soldier. This study discusses on the relationship between image and politics by examining the series of processes in which the image of Momotarō is transformed, focusing on nationalism and emperor-centrism of Japanese Empire.
